Here we describe our Testing Facilities and provide (see side panel) entry links to the Test Focus Page, Books, Journals and Catalogs pages.
NEW for 2012: In 2011 we geared up with microbiological media, apparatus and facilities to run base level microbiological testing instead of fielding this out to other labs. We can do basic aerobic and anearobic work and some limited species identifications. We wrote two key articles on microbiological media and have charts showing frequency, location and desired results from sampling throught the brewhouse. It only took us 8 years to put our micro expertise to work in our own facilty but has been done so through an increasing number of calls to test for microbiological stability of beverages. Below shows a picture we took in the lab recently along with a tie-in to our other main area of expertise – sensory evaluation of beer and sensory training.

The Brewing and Distilling Analytical Services laboratories perform tests according to industry standards. We rely on, but are not limited to, the protocols and methods developed and or approved by the following organizations: American Society of Brewing Chemists (ASBC), European Brewery Convention (EBC-Analytica), American Society of Enology and Viticulture (ASEV), Association of Analytical Communities (AOAC), Institute of Brewing (IoB, now the IDB), Central European brew-technical analysis commission e.V. (MEBAK), International Organization of Legal Metrology (OIML), The International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV) and the Tobacco Trade Bureau (TTB, formerly BATF). We participate in several check-sample services and laboratory proficiency testing programs in order to evaluate and ensure our own top quality performance. Furthermore, with our extensive research background, we also develop new tests that either simplify the protocols needed or speed the time for completion of accurate and reliable test results. Some of our research and tips will be reported in these web pages.
